Favourite Moments

Some of Y5's favourite moments on the Whitby visit included shopping, investigating portraits, rockpooling and the quiz night.

The 7 members of staff accompanying the girls commended the whole of Y5 for their exemplary behaviour and their ability to get off to sleep quickly!

Mrs Hart wishes to say a huge thank you to the girls for this and to all the staff who have made the trip such a success!

Even more rockpooling!

Searching hard for evidence of life.

The weather wasn't promising, but we piled on our layers and persevered. We were rewarded by finding a surprising range of creatures. The pressure was on to find a crab. Alive if possible!

What was on the menu?

Fishy bites! They were delicious and freshly cooked for us by the wonderful Sneaton Castle staff.

More intrepid rockpoolers.

Y5 found a baby shrimp, hermit crabs, periwinkles and dog whelks in the rockpools. We learned that dog whelks are carnivores and periwinkles are herbivores.

Following the village trail was interesting too as we saw evidence of coastal erosion and found an old chapel where John Wesley preached.

Mutiny on the Whitby (Trip)

The crew have finally decided to mutiny and have made a break for home!

So it's goodbye from her and it's goodbye from me!

We are now bound for the fair shores of Sheffield.

ETA is 4pm to 4.15pm. Hang on, that's the R.A.F.!

African Grey Parakeets?

After hearing about the menagerie of African Grey parakeets kept by the nuns at the priory at Sneaton, pupils were heard to say "I actually saw one in flight and I heard them this morning!"

Sorry Y5, this was our little joke! There are no parakeets at Sneaton...but the nuns do belong to the Holy Order of the Paraclete! I didn't think anyone would spot the difference on the sign. Looks like I was right!

We found a stowaway climbing into the crow's nest!

Local storyteller Rose Ryland came with us to the museum and shared some fascinating local legend.

And here is some of the furniture we saw.

There was even a mousetrap!
